Whatever business you're in, safeguarding your employees' health makes good sense - because their health problems could have a significant effect on your business performance. And for staff based abroad, it's even more important that they have fast, easy access to the best medical treatment available - wherever in the world they are.

up arrow  What is the Bupa International Company Plan?
This plan is designed to protect the health care needs of any employees of your company who live and work abroad, usually for six or more months a year.

up arrow  Is my company eligible?
If there are three or more employees in your company who live and work overseas, then you can apply to be covered by us. There is no maximum number of employees that you can have covered, although for large groups we recommend that we tailor-make a plan for you.

We also have a number of special plans for companies operating in the oil and gas industry and maritime industry. Please contact us for detailed information.

up arrow  What's covered?
There are three levels of cover to choose from:

Gold

the most comprehensive plan which offers full cover for in-patient and out-patient treatment, as well as cover for family doctor, home nursing and accidental dentistry.

Classic

a good choice if you require full cover for in-patient and out-patient treatment.

Essential

the essentials of private medical care, providing full cover for in-patient and day-case.

Each level provides:

  • full cover for hospital accommodation and specialists' fees, so you and your staff don't need to worry about unexpected in-patient bills
  • cover for emergency road ambulance
  • there are no restrictions on sports injury cover

up arrow  What other benefits will my employees receive?
As a member, your employees have 24 hour access to a multi-lingual helpline, open 365 days of the year. They'll also receive a personalised membership card which features all of their membership details and emergency numbers. If they need to make a claim, we will settle the bill direct with the hospital or supplier - in the local currency. This not only gives you peace of mind, but it also helps to reduce your administration.

up arrow  Do you cover the USA?
In a word, yes. You will be covered as standard for unforeseen or emergency treatment during temporary visits to the USA, and full USA cover is also available for an increased premium. We have established a special partnership with a leading US health care company, which means that should one of your workforce require medical treatment, they'll have professional advice about this particularly complex market. And, because medical costs and risks vary tremendously from one area to another, Bupa International divides the world into eight different zones. This allows us to match the costs of medical care to your employees' locations more accurately, and helps you to control the costs of your company's health care plan.

up arrow  Pre-departure check-up
It's always a good precaution to have a full check-up prior to departure, including a dental check, a visit to the optician for an eye test or a change of glasses.

You must, of course, be up to date with all injections and vaccinations required for the country to which you are going. If not, do not leave them too late. (Vaccination programmes should usually be started at least six weeks prior to departure.) If your family is travelling with you, don't forget to make sure the children have been vaccinated against the usual infections and illnesses - rubella, measles, diphtheria, and tetanus, for example. Ask your doctor about suitable anti-malaria pills, and consider taking a kit of sterile 'sharp' supplies to developing countries too. Always bear in mind the risks of HIV/AIDS.

Falling ill is especially worrying when you're in a foreign country. This worry can be worsened by language barriers and the quality of the medical services on offer. There can be wide variations in the type of health care available to you - not just country by country, but sometimes even town by town.
